Destiny’s Child is heading out on a reunion tour next year, according to a report in a British tabloid.
“I can reveal that Beyoncé has been secretly working on getting the iconic pop group back together, with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams both on board,” wrote The Sun columnist Simon Boyle.
He quoted an unnamed “music insider” as saying the trio wants to record new music to add to a collection of their biggest hits and “then they want to do a tour which will be short enough for them to fit it into their schedules, but big enough to make sure all their fans can make a date to see them.”
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Destiny’s Child becoming a trio. Its breakthrough hits include “Bootylicious,” “Survivor” and “Independent Women Part I.”
Destiny’s Child disbanded in 2006 but the three singers have reunited for several performances, including during the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and during Beyoncé’s set at Coachella in 2018.
There’s been no confirmation of The Sun report.
Fuelling the reunion rumour is the fact that five late-night talk shows – The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Conan – are promoting an announcement by a “surprise guest” on Thursday. (Adele and Rihanna are also good guesses.)
Asked about a reunion tour, Williams told iHeartRadio.ca last summer: “We just take it one day at a time, one opportunity at a time.
“When the three of us are doing anything together it’s a blessing once again – to be on stage working together and then to be able to take in the impact that we’ve had on people’s lives through our music.”
Williams said the impact Destiny’s Child has had “blows my mind.” She added: “The three of us individually know the successes that we’ve had but, really, we’re just down-home girls. And that’s cool to keep a level head but to know that you do have an impact one way or another in this world.”
