Katy Perry Banned From China

Katy Perry has been “banned indefinitely” from entering China, reportedly over a dress.

According to Page Six, the pop singer’s visa was denied while attempting to travel to Shanghai for a performance at next Monday’s Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

It has been customary for Chinese authorities to do some background research on performers for anything deemed offensive through their social media accounts and press releases before granting them entry.

Perry was rejected after the communist nation discovered her controversial 2015 performance at the Taipei Arena wearing a Taiwanese flag as well as a sunflower dress, which was in protest of a Chinese trade agreement the previous year.

Famously held all over the world, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is making its China debut this year. However, the country is making it difficult for the brand to run the show according to plan.

Model Gigi Hadid - who is currently dating Zayn Malik - was also denied entry and unable to make the show after Chinese authorities reportedly caught wind of her Instagram video in which she is squinting her eyes to resemble a Buddha cookie.

Harry Styles will be replacing Perry for Monday's show.
