Kendrick Lamar Wins Pulitzer Prize for 'DAMN.'
Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize.
The organization behind the prestigious award announced Monday that the rap star is being recognized for his album DAMN.
The Pulitzer board lauded Lamar’s album as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
The 30-year-old is the first rapper – and the first non-classical or jazz artist – to win the award. DAMN. was released one year ago.
Lamar’s collection of awards already includes 12 Grammys, an American Music Award, a pair of iHeartRadio Music Awards and Juno.
