Carly Rae Jepsen has officially released her latest song, “Cut to the Feeling”. It was released last night (May 25) and is an upbeat jam that samples Madonna’s hit, “Lucky Star”.
“I had a dream, or was it real?/ We crossed the line and it was on/ I've been denying how I feel/ You've been denying what you want” the 31-year-old B.C. native sings.
Jepsen originally recorded it for her 2015 album E•MO•TION, but it unfortunately didn’t make the cut. When she was putting together E•MO•TION: Side B, again the song didn’t work. So Jepsen held on to it until it found a perfect home on the soundtrack of French Canadian film Ballerina, which was later released as Leap! (Jepsen voiced one of the characters in the film).
The track was subsequently leaked earlier this month, but has now enjoyed an official issue. Perhaps it’s a tease for the forthcoming album? Jepsen recently tweeted that she was hard at work writing new material: “She writes something like 50 tunes for her next album, takes a break in Italy and- plot twist.... never comes back.”
