Over the last week, Harry Edward Styles has been teasing fans with his very first official solo single "Sign of the Times." First, it was his cover art, then it was the photos that surfaced of him dangling from a helicopter while filming the music video. But now, "Sign of the Times" is FINALLY. HERE.
For his debut solo single, Harry has gone in a very different direction than his One Direction bandmates have with their solo efforts. "Sign of the Times" is the first single from his debut solo album, and boasts a more rock tone than anything else. In fact, there are some serious David Bowie vibes happening in this song, which is five minutes and 41 seconds long.
Harry sings in the track's opening, "Just stop you're crying, it's a sign of the times/Welcome to the final show/Hope you're wearing your best clothes."
According to a recent interview in the UK, Harry's album is finished, so it can't be too far behind. In fact, Harry said during the interview that he did let Ed Sheeran listen to a few songs. "I played him a few songs after the album was finished," Harry said. "He didn’t say that he didn’t like any but he did like one song that isn’t on the album. So I did have a bit of a minute of like hmmm no but…"
In the same BBC interview, he says that on his debut solo album, he wanted to make music based on "what [he] wanted to listen to." He said, "I think if you put out something that you don’t stand behind and really love, then if it doesn’t go well then you could regret not doing what you wanted to do."
One thing is for sure. Fans are having been showing their "Sign of the Times" love on Twitter all day on April 7th. #SignOfTheTimes was trending worldwide on the social network. Check out some of the best fan reactions below:
