Morrissey has released “Spent the Day in Bed,” a catchy new song with a political message.
It’s the first new music since 2014 from the 58-year-old ex-frontman for The Smiths, whose new album Low in High School is due out this year.
“I recommend that you stop watching the news / Because the news contrives to frighten you,” Morrissey sings. “To make you feel and alone / To make you feel like your mind isn’t your own.”
Hours before releasing the song, Morrissey joined Twitter. One of his first tweets listed abbreviations for 13 American states — presumably a tease for an upcoming tour.
Don’t expect any shows north of the border, though. Morrissey has said he won’t perform in Canada unless the government puts a stop to the East Coast seal hunt.
