LISTEN: Posthumous Avicii Track 'SOS' Features Aloe Blacc
The family of the late Avicii has debuted “SOS,” the first single from a posthumous album coming next month.
“SOS” features vocals by Aloe Blacc, who paid tribute to Avicii (aka Tim Berling) on Twitter.
“Thank you, Tim,” he wrote. “Today we share your creativity with the world once again. I'm honored to have worked with you and I promise to carry on your legacy through our songs.”
In a statement, Blacc – who collaborated with Avicii on 2013's "Wake Me Up" – said: “I feel like ‘SOS’ was a song that was probably ahead of its time for when he wrote it. He wrote these lyrics obviously about some of his battles and I think it’s a really important topic to approach and to share, especially with his visibility and his access to ears and hearts. To give people the words to be able to say ‘I need help.’”
The "SOS" video features a collection of messages fans left on Avicii's website following his death. "This video is our way of saying thank you for all of your love and support," a description reads.
Avicii died a year ago this month at the age of 28. His family said at the time: “He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.”
Last week they announced that Tim, an album of unreleased material, will be released on June 6.
“He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music,” read a statement. “The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.”
