Lorde Rethinking Concert In Israel

Lorde said this week she is reconsidering doing a concert in Israel after been blasted by fans who claim it’s an endorsement of the country’s occupation of Palestine.

The 21-year-old singer responded to an open letter from fans Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Schnab calling for the cancellation of a June show in Tel Aviv.

“Noted!,” tweeted Lorde. “Been speaking w many people about this and considering all options. Thank u for educating me i am learning all the time too.”

The letter charged: “A performance in Israel sends the wrong message. Playing in Tel Aviv will be seen as giving support to the policies of the Israeli government, even if you make no comment on the political situation.

“Such an effect cannot be undone by even the best intention and the best music.”

Artists like Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder and Roger Waters have refused to perform in Israel and some acts who have announced shows there – most recently Radiohead – have been criticized.
