Lynyrd Skynyrd Announces Final Tour
More than four decades after the release of their debut album, Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd announced Thursday they are embarking on their final tour.
The band will kick off the road trip on May 4 in West Palm Beach, Florida and wrap things up on Sept. 1 in Atlanta.
There is one Canadian date on the schedule – an Aug. 11 show at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage.
The tour will feature Kid Rock, Hank Williams Jr., Bad Company, the Marshall Tucker Band and 38 Special.
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s current line-up includes Gary Rossington and Johnny Van Want. The latter is the brother of Ronnie Van Zant, who died in a 1977 plane crash along with guitarist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, and several of the band’s crew members.
Lynyrd Skynyrd came together in 1964 and, in 2006, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band is known for tracks like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”
