Madonna wants the world to know she’s no "Material Girl."
The pop icon is marking her upcoming 60th birthday by asking fans to support her Raising Malawi foundation.
“I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home,” Madonna said in a statement shared on Facebook. “For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most.”
The singer, who celebrates the milestone on Aug. 16, said every dollar raised will go towards providing meals, schools, uniforms and health care. Donations will be matched by Ripple.
“I want to come together with my friends, fans and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved,” said Madonna, who created the foundation in 2006.
The campaign, which runs until Aug. 31, raised more than $16,000 U.S. in its first 24 hours.
Fans are encouraged to donate directly or start their own Facebook fundraiser.
