New AM Station Will Play Artists With Initials A.M.

iHeartRadio announced Monday morning it is launching an AM station that will broadcast music from a select group of artists only during morning hours.

AMPower, on the AM dial, can be heard across Canada from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. every day.

Its playlist will consist largely of artists who were signed to the now-defunct A&M Records, as well as Canadian artists who have the initials A.M.

“We’ll mostly be playing tracks by Alanis Morissette, Anne Murray, Amanda Marshall, and of course Alannah Myles,” said program director Alan Mor. “I mean, you haven’t fully experienced ‘Black Velvet’ until you’ve experienced it on AM radio.”

Mor said the new station will also meet the public's demand for music from Canadian fiddler Ashley MacIsaac.

But, one artist who isn’t happy about the new AMPower is Avril Lavigne.

“I can’t believe my songs are excluded simply because my surname starts with a letter that comes just before ‘M’. It’s not fair,” said Lavigne. “AM is the future of music on the radio and I’m trying to keep my head above water right now.”

Lavigne pointed out that her first name is French for “April,” which reminded her that today is April Fools’ Day – and that nothing you just read is true.

Happy April Fools’ Day!
