Thanks to her collaboration with gospel vocal powerhouse Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Nicki Minaj has reached the Billboard Hot Gospel charts.
The rapper contributed a verse on Leonard's single "I'm Getting Ready," which the gospel singer teased a few months ago on social media.
Unfortunately, Leonard initially received a lot of backlash from Christians who believed that having Minaj on a gospel song wasn't right. It didn't matter that the “Anaconda” singer is a known fan of Leonard, and gospel music in general. Leonard didn't get swayed by the hate and continued on.
Leonard also posted a message on Instagram defending her decision to collaborate with Minaj with a verse from the Bible: "Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do… And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with — even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.”
It looks like Leonard sticking to her guns really paid off because the single is doing great numbers. On Instagram, Minaj expressed her excitement: "This is so unexpected… just raked up 2 more #1's on Billboard. Never been on these charts b4 but won't Jesus do it?!?!!!"
