Prince’s family has filed a a wrongful death lawsuit against the Minnesota doctor who prescribed the singer pain medication.
In court documents filed at the Hennepin County District Court on Friday, the family alleges that Dr. Michael Schulenberg “failed to appropriately evaluate, diagnose, treat and counsel Prince for his recognizable opioid addiction, and further failed to take appropriate and reasonable steps to prevent the foreseeably fatal result of that addiction,” according to Pitchfork.
The family is reportedly seeking $50,000 (USD) in damages.
Following Prince’s death of an accidental overdose in April 2016, Dr. Schulenberg admitted to prescribing oxycodone to the pop singer’s bodyguard, in an attempt to treat the singer while protecting his privacy. However, autopsy results revealed Prince’s body showed “exceedingly high” levels of Fentanyl.
None of the allegations have been proven in a court of law.
