Keith Flint, frontman for UK electronic music group The Prodigy, was found dead Monday morning in his home in England. He was 49.
On The Prodigy's official Instagram page, founder Liam Howlett shared: "The news is true , I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend , I’m shell shocked , f**kin angry , confused and heart broken."
A message on the band's Facebook page read: "It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time."
Police in Essex said in a statement they were called to the singer's home just after 8:10 a.m. local time and found the body. A cause of death was not immediately known but police said "the death is not being treated as suspicious."
Formed in 1990, The Prodigy has released seven studio albums since 1992, including last November's release, No Tourists. The group's best known songs include “Breathe” and “Firestarter" and they were nominated for Grammys in 1998 and 2005.
In a 1996 interview, Flint told The Daily Star: “When, and if, I get to 65, I’d like to say that I did everything – the lot. I’d like to think I bedded loads of babes and lived out my ultimate sex fantasies. I’d like to think I’d been through every colour with my hair and everywhere that could have been pierced on my body and been pierced.
"Even if all my beloved tattoos have gone saggy by then, at least I can stand up and say, ‘I did it.’"
The Prodigy had festival dates set for April in Colombia and Austria and was scheduled to kick off a U.S. tour in May.
Flint leaves behind wife Mayumi Kai.
