Canadian music fans have one more way to show support for Spirit of the West singer John Mann, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease.
An all-star cover of the 1990 Spirit of the West hit “Home For A Rest” has been released on iTunes, with all of the proceeds going to support 55-year-old Mann.
The new version of the high-energy folk rock song was recorded last November in a men’s washroom at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom, where nearly 50 Canadian musicians gathered for a benefit concert.
Singer Alan Doyle and engineer Peter Green set up the makeshift recording studio – including hiding the urinals with black drapes – to make the song happen.
Among those lending their voices to the single are Sarah McLachlan, Jim Cuddy, Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, and Colin James.
A GoFundMe campaign set up last year has (as of Feb. 5) almost reached its $35,000 goal.
