Shawn Mendes won his second Juno Award on Saturday night, taking Single of the Year for "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back."
Last year, Mendes won the Fan Choice Award, a category he is competing in again this year. (Also on Saturday night, the 19-year-old Canadian was named Favourite Male Artist at the Kids' Choice Awards.)
Light's Skin & Earth was named Pop Album of the Year while Country Album of the Year went to Game On from the James Barker Band and The Glorious Sons' Young Beauties and Fools was named Rock Album of the Year.
Michael Bublé and Diana Krall were also among the winners Saturday in Vancouver.
Bublé, who will host Sunday night’s Junos broadcast, picked up the award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for Nobody But Me.
Krall accepted the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year award for Turn Up The Quiet and was named the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year for her work on the album.
The late Gord Downie won Songwriter of the Year (with Kevin Drew) and Adult Alternative Album of the Year, for Introduce Yourself.
Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. was named International Album of the Year.
During Saturday’s gala, honourary awards were presented to singer Jim Cuddy (MusiCounts Inspired Minds Ambassador Award), philanthropist Gary Slaight (Humanitarian Award), Montreal-based band Arcade Fire (International Achievement), and music executive Denise Donlon (Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award).
The Juno Awards will be broadcast live from Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on Sunday beginning at 8 pm ET. Performers include Arcade Fire, Arkells, Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez, Lights and Shawn Hook.
There will also be a reunion of Barenaked Ladies, who are being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and City and Colour and Sarah Harmer will perform a special tribute to Downie.
