The director of Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” video wants people who think it borrows from Beyoncé’s “Formation” to step back.
“It’s not ‘Formation’ at all,” Joseph Kahn said in an interview with the LA Times. “They try to say she’s wearing a black crop top and Beyoncé wore a black crop top. But they don’t realize in 2015 in ‘Bad Blood,’ Taylor Swift was wearing a black crop top.”
Kahn went further. “I really do think, by the way, that Beyoncé copied ‘Bad Blood.’”
The director, who has done five Swift videos, helmed both the “Say My Name” and “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” videos for Beyoncé’s former group Destiny’s Child.
Kahn has been on the defensive since Twitter lit up with accusations that Swift’s new video had certain visuals similar to Beyoncé’s. He responded that Swift’s video was “not in [Beyoncé]’s art space.”
