Tegan Quin of Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara said this week they were sexually harassed more than a decade ago by a radio host.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Quin recalled a 2005 live interview in which a DJ “at a reputable station asked if we commit incest.
“Worth noting it was a woman who asked about the incest live on air. It was like getting the wind kicked out of you. I shook for a full day.”
She added: “As a band we've sometimes ignored sexism, harassment, non consensual flirting + homophobia aimed at us...too embarrassed to call it out.”
Quin said she was inspired to talk about the incident after Taylor Swift won her case against a former radio host accused of inappropriately touching her during a backstage meet-and-greet in 2013.
After a jury sided with Swift last Friday, the superstar said in a statement: “My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard.”
On Twitter, Quin noted “even someone as powerful as @taylorswift13 lives within a system that pushes women to just ignore or put up with this f**ked up behaviour.”
