After rumours circulated about a Spice Girls reunion tour, Victoria Beckham confirmed on Saturday while prepping for her autumn/winter 2018 fashion show that the girl group will not be touring after all.
Last week, Beckham posted a photo on Instagram of all four girls together again, which sent the internet into a frenzy of excitement. However, a rep for the Spice Girls later issued a statement of clarification on their behalf:
“We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
Now, speaking to Vogue during her preview at Paris fashion week, the pop singer announced “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour.”
Although Posh Spice is more focused on her fashion line these days, she did mention that the Spice Girls are “brainstorming” different reunion ideas, with a strong focus on female empowerment.
“There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming.”
In a time where women are powerfully standing up and speaking out, the Spice Girls’ original ‘girl power’ motto is as relevant as ever.
“It’s a positive thing,” Beckham said of the reunion rumours to the fashion magazine. “You know, there’s so much bad stuff going on, and the Spice Girls were about fun and celebrating individuality. I think there’s so much that the brand can do, and it’s such a positive message for young kids.”
