WATCH: Family, Friends Remember Lil Peep At Memorial
Memorial services for rising emo rapper Lil Peep were held in both Long Beach, New York and London on Saturday, with the service live streamed.
Lil Peep, born Gustav Åhr, died on Nov. 15 from a suspected drug overdose. He was 21.
The rapper’s family and friends gathered in Long Beach to remember him, while a large projection of his face was cast over the House of Commons at midnight in London – where he had recently moved after his increasing popularity and success.
“He lived his own life on his own terms," said his mother Liza Womack. "He was a stubborn, driven, talented, crafty, observant, and tender young man. Gus was also vulnerable."
Grandmother Jenny Kastner added: “He wasn’t the modern-day Kurt Cobain, by the way. He is the first and only Lil Peep, and arguably left behind a legacy that will have a far greater impact. His kindness will live on through lots of people."
Good Charlotte’s cover of Lil Peep’s “Awful Things” was also screened in tribute during the service.
