Shawn Mendes on Monday premiered a video for “Youth,” his collaboration with Khalid that was released six months ago.
Directed by Anthony Mandler, the seven-minute video showcases 33 inspiring young people – from a 4-year-old who feeds the homeless to a 21-year-old cancer researcher.
Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg, former students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas (the scene of a mass shooting last year), have writing credits on the track. Just before the music kicks in, Hogg is heard saying: ‘If you listen real close, you can hear the people in power shaking.”
The video debuted a day before many Americans go to the polls in midterm elections. On Instagram, both Mendes and Khalid urged their followers to go out and vote.
