What are you doing New Year’s Eve?
Canadian artists will be ringing in 2017 at outdoor celebrations across the country. Best of all, the shows are free -- as long as you're willing to brave the chill.
Parliament Hill in Ottawa is the place to be as Canada gets ready to celebrate its 150th birthday. The NYE show will include performances by Acadian hip-hop crew Radio Radio, Alberta country star Brett Kissel and B.C. pop star Carly Rae Jepsen.
The Grand Parade in Halifax will feature Ontario rock band The Strumbellas and hometown singer-songwriter Ria Mae.
Montreal’s NYE celebration, billed as the country’s largest, will take place in the Old Port and feature DJs as well as performances by Toronto’s Scott Helman, Vancouver’s SonReal and Quebec artists Alex Nevsky, Bernard Adamus, Klô Pelgag and Louis-Jean Cormier.
At Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls, revellers can catch Alberta country duo High Valley as well as Toronto’s Serena Ryder and Montreal’s Sam Roberts Band.
In Calgary, ring in 2017 with veteran Canadian rock band 54-40 and the city’s own Eve Hell and the Razors.
Vancouver’s Canada Place is the site of a big NYE bash headlined by Saskatoon rockers The Sheepdogs. Wintersleep and Crystal Shawanda will also take the stage.
A second stage will feature rising Canadian talent like Meghan Patrick, Dan Davidson and Spencer Burton.
