Another great weekend for outdoor winter fun
Well, our roller coaster weather continues but there's still tons of snow on the hills despite milder air earlier in the week...the brutal cold allowed operators to make snow that'll last us through March break...the only real change is surface, now machine groomed granular with a little powder mixed in to the north..all resorts are open both downhill and cross country with some special events taking place, starting with Mt St Louis/Moonstone.
On Saturday at Mt St Louis/Moonstone, Vans Hi Standard Snow Series with all age contest for boarders with tricks and demonstrations from 8-5.
Its the 22nd Martin Luther King ski weekend at Blue Mt with over 2500 participants..largest urban ski event in the world...4 days and 3 nights of activities, village parties, races and plenty more all weekend in the Village..
On Sunday at Horseshoe Valley it's the Outlaw Slopestyle for skiers and boarders for national ranking featuring some of the country's best with flips, spins and rail...
Heading into Haliburton it's the Sir Sams Challenge with 7 weekends of family fun and competition til March 3rd.
Moonlight skis and snowshoeing are popular with events this Saturday night at Horseshoe cross country, Snowvalley including a chili cookout and Yoga and Scenic Caves in Collingwood.
Arrowhead Provincial Park is back with Trail Fire and Ice Nights with tiki torches lining the trail through the forest..there's also snowshoe eco tours at Wye March Wildlife Center in Midland 10-1 daily.
Along the same outdoor theme have you ever tried a Fat Bike...there's a festival on Saturday in Caledon with a chili lunch, free beer to all participants, demos, music and festival atmosphere from 9-3 including a 20k race at Albion Hills Conservation area.
As for events, also a full list starting with the country's biggest ice wine festival in Niagara on the Lake..23rd year with over 35 wineries, street festival and big gala Saturday night, all running through the 28th.
The popular Ice Wine and Ice Cream festival also continues with sampling, demonstrations and plenty more at various wineries in the region.
Just down the road, there's another party..Twenty Valleys' Winter Wine Fest in Jordan, 30 mins west of Niagara Falls. It brings together the regions top wineries and chefs for a weekend of food and fun and what makes it really Canadian.. it's all outdoors.
Another huge winter tradition is underway..Peterborough Sno fest..41st year with this years theme...celebrate winter, embrace winter and keep active all running through the 29th at various locations in town.
There's another celebrity charity hockey game, this time Saturday night in Guelph with the firefighters battling former NHL super stars at the Sleeman Center at 7.
There's another hockey game but a different type with 3HL Owen Sound Bayshore Knockout..worlds first 3 on 3 professional league..8 teams, 7 games, 14 mins each and winner on Saturday at the Community Center from 2-6.
And in the city, lets think summer with the huge International Boat Show for two next weeks..Canada's largest with 250 free seminars, demonstrations and plenty more at the Enercare Center.
Monster Jam takes place at Rogers Center..25th year with some of the worlds best drivers and high flying machines..
Canada's top ten film festival is underway celebrating and promoting contemporary Canadian cinema and achievements...it's a TIFF partner production at various locations in town.
Next Stage theater also continues, premier winter theater with something for everyone at Factory Theater all weekend.
Winter at Ontario Place continues with skating on synthetic ice, movies at Cinesphere and plenty more through March and just outside the city, Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts with 12 teams runs at the Whitby Curling Club.
