Final weekend in ski country

Well, this is it..this is your final weekend to ski at many ski resorts in the Province..it's been a great season despite some very weird and wacky weather.

A total of 7 resorts will be open for the weekend and any resorts with hotels will be open, at least another couple of weeks.  The NEWSTALK Pfaff Volkswagen Touareg is heading to Sir Sams in Haliburton on Saturday for a tradition...over 25 years of celebrating end of season with Big Splash.

Skier and boarders start at top of hill then fly down hoping to cross a huge pond filled with freezing cold water.  There's nothing if you make it except for a few boos but if you don't, make a face plant the crowd goes nuts with cheers.  Spectators are welcome and then it's the wind up dinner and dance in main chalet with a live band.

Hidden Valley is also celebrating end of season with their Splash Bash along the same theme as Sir Sams, except an earlier start with a pancake breakfast.  On Sunday, you'll find the NEWSTALK ski team heading to Mt St Louis Moonstone for the 5th annual Sandy Boville Invitational featuring some of the best freestylers in the Province, flippin and flying for cash prizes and once again spectators are welcome to their magnificent terrain park.

As for events, indoors with a sketchy forecast.....If you're into bikes, head to the Toronto International Spring Motorcycle Show featuring 4 huge halls of the latest and greatest. There's a used bike zone, super store and everything for biking fun at the International Center in Mississauga.

Here's a first, Toronto Brew Fest featuring 40 craft breweries from Ontario and Quebec, food trucks, a Wall of Taps, along with the Toronto Yogi Community at Enercare Center, CNE.

Home and Garden Shows continue to roll along in Barrie for their 25th annual at the Molson Center and Ajax at Deer Creek Golf Club.

Return of the Swans remains popular at Grand Bend with 15,00 swans migrating back to their original breeding grounds through April.

Bracebridge celebrates tradition with the 40th annual Arts and Crafts Spring Show featuring over 100 vendors, local entertainment,. and local flavors at the Sports Plex and Maple Syrup Festivals continue at a number of Conservation areas across the Province with pancake breakfasts, sausages and great family fun.

Thats it for now, watch for the NEWSTALK Pfaff Volkswagen Touareg at Sir Sams Resort this Sat and Mt St Louis on Sunday to win free pizzas from Pizzaville.  And wanted to thank all our winter sponsors for a great season on the slopes, Helly Hansen, Descente, Rossignol, Smith Optics, Kenmark Ski Shop in Richmond Hill and Hestra Gloves.  Great ski trips to Fernie and Kimberley BC, along with Banff.  Both spectacular places to ski and enjoy winter fun.

Have a safe and happy weekend, a great summer and we'll be back in December with more skiing fun!
