Well, this is a total surprise...the rain and freezing rain did very little damage to slopes and trails in ski country. Matter a fact, very little damage to the south cause we've got that much snow. It's all systems go for skiing, cross country and snowmobilers.
There may be some reduced trails but nothing serious especially with the return of colder weather. Okay, as for events plenty going on. You know it's winter with return of Kearney Dog Sled races with teams from across North America...70 competitive mushers and largest dog sled races in Ontario..Starts on Main Street and Kearney is just north of Huntsville with spectators welcome.
Not far away in Haliburton it"s the 30th annual Forest and Wildlife Reserve Snowmobile Poker Run..everybody is welcome beginning at Base Camp with proceeds to local firefighters association.
Here's another pond hockey tournament for charity..this time in Gravenhurst for the North America Cup original..13th annual with food, live music, indoor beer tent and more from the Muskoka Wharf all weekend long.
There's another Winter Carnival but in Dwight..46th annual with a chili cook off, pancake breakfast, outdoor fun for the entire family at the Community Center.
It's Hockey Day in Bradford..11th annual on Saturday starting with a pancake breakfast at 8 then pond hockey, indoor activities and more through 12:30 at Bud Brown Park.
Winterfest continues in Hamilton..a 2 week party at various locations in town.
Just up the QEW, it's Days of Wine and Chocolate in Niagara...chocolate infused dishes matched with your favorite wines at various locations in the region through end of month.
If you're a whiskey lover, head to Collingwood as Wiskeylicious continues..a 12 day celebration with 10 downtown restaurants participating including a whiskey walk.

Tiny Township is celebrating the season with Winter Carnaval on Saturday only with snow tubing, sledge hockey., skating and fat bike riding from 11-2 at the Pavillion.
