It's finally looking like winter

Well, the first full weekend of winter is finally looking like winter with some new snow and more on the way. 

Temperatures continue to fluctuate but it's been cold enough this past week for operators to make snow...overall about 5-10cms of new snow and a major storm hitting early next week.

It's very good news for any skiing and boarding with all resorts open, running basically full operation on a combination of machine groomed powder to the north and little more granular to the south with bases ranging from 2-5ft. 

Watch for the NEWSTALK Markville Ford Explorer on Saturday at Blue Mountain for Ontario's largest rail competition..Frozen Rail Jam for freestyle skiers and boarders... open to all ages and ability with $1,500 up for grabs with everything underway at 10 right beside the Silver Bullet. 


Ok, as for events there's plenty to wind up your Christmas break in the city...thinking about summer already? Well get in the mood at the North American Motorcycle Supershow in Mississauga...North America's largest retail show with over a thousand bikes on display..500 exhibitors and over 60,000 visitors plus a super show on 3 stages over the next 3 days at the International Center. 

Feel like heading outdoors with the mild sunny forecast,  then strap on the skates and head to the Gardner...End of Fort York Blvd for Bentway Skate Trail...a figure 8 skate trail with rentals, food, instruction and beverages for all ages from noon to 9..over 50,000 people enjoyed the Bentway last year.

The Nutcracker Christmas continues at Casa Loma..last weekend... with live entertainment, illusionists, the Paw Patrol and plenty more for the entire family from 9:30 to 9 each day. 

The ROM is always a good place to wind up the holidays with the Museum turned into a full winter wonderland and 3 special themes..spiders, dinosaurs and wildlife.  Lets head up north and how about a delicious pancake breakfast Saturday morning in Sharon..just north of Newmarket off Yonge St..Mayors annual spread all served by local councilors and volunteers from 9-11 at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex.

Not far up the road it's Holiday Glow at Bradford Greenhouse in Barrie..it's the largest indoor festive in York Region with inter active games for the kids, light shows and more from 3-10 each night.

Heading further north to Gravenhurst, it's Zoo to You at Discovery Center with all sorts of exotic creatures from around the world ..hands on education and more from 10-3 all weekend. 

This is also the last weekend for Winter Family Fun Days in Southampton with local crafts, food and fun at Bruce County Museum from 10-5. 

Winter Break at Wye Marsh is always good family fun with over 25k of nature trails, exhibits and a snowshoe discovery hike all in Midland.   

Festival of Northern Lights also winds up this weekend with thousands of lights along with the Sydenham River..local good and fun right downtown with lights glowing from 3-11. 

Heading East, to Ancaster for Inflatable Fun Days with food, live entertainment and more at the Fairgrounds from 10-5. 

Burlington is busy with 2 events...Holiday Traditions at Royal Botanical Gardens plus Victorian Festival at Bronte Creek Provincial park.

Bluemination continues at Blue Mt Village with thousands of lights around the Village and Mill Pond with fireworks on Sat night and if you like moonlight snowshoeing or cross country head to Hardwood Hills, Saturday starting at 6 with live music and rentals. 

Guided night snowshoe adventure at Scenic Caves in Collingwood,  Moonlight Shoe at Horseshoe Valley and Chilli cook off and snowshoeing at Snow Valley in Barrie.
