Drive to and from work about to get a bit more hectic on the DVP
The drive to and from work is about to get a little more hectic if you use the Don Valley Parkway.
You are looking at lane restrictions and longer than usual delays on the DVP from Tuesday until at least October!
That's because extensive rehabilitation work on four bridges over the DVP - at Don Mills Road, Spanbridge Road, Wynford Drive and Lawrence Avenue East - began early Tuesday
According to the City of Toronto, "This important work will ensure that the bridges meet today’s standards and remain safe for vehicles and pedestrians into the future. The most extensive work is required on the Don Mills Road bridge and the City has bundled the rehabilitation of three other bridges into this project to complete the work as quickly as possible during the summer months (when there are typically lower traffic volumes) and avoid occupying more lanes on the DVP in coming years."
In preparation for the construction, the southbound DVP at Lawrence Avenue East and at Don Mills Road were reduced to one lane Monday night.
Also, the DVP at Spanbridge Road and Wynford Drive were reduced to two lanes as crews work to safely set up the construction work zone.
Meantime, crews began setting up in the northbound lanes from Don Mills Road moving towards Lawrence Avenue East.
By 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, at least two lanes will be open in each direction on the DVP.
All lane restrictions, which will likely impact traffic flow, should be fully in effect by Wednesday, July 3rd.
