Durham Region faces possibility of school bus driver strike

The agency responsible for school buses in Durham Region is out with a heads-up for parents about the possibility of a school bus drivers' strike.

Durham Student Transportation Services says a labor disruption could affect 103 schools and roughly 10,000 students across the public and Catholic school boards.

The union and the employer are in contract talks now and are scheduled through November 22nd.

However, the union is able to give strike notice at 12:01am Sunday.

That starts a countdown clock to the same time Wednesday morning.

If there's no deal, its possible that school bus drivers will not show up for work until the labour dispute is resolved.

Durham Region's public and Catholic school boards say they're 'hopeful' both sides can come to an agreement

School bus drivers in Durham Region recently unionized through Unifor, and are seeking their first collective agreement.

The student transportation agency will fan out notices to parents when there are new developments.
