Expect higher bills this summer: Toronto Hydro

Toronto Hydro is warning of higher summer bills thanks to the heat.

The utility says electricity demand is up compared to last summer.

There have already been seven days where demand for power has exceeded 4,000 megawatts, a measurement used to indicate a high level of demand.

Last year only saw five days over 4,000 megawatts.

Toronto Hydro says air conditioning can account for half of your summer bill.

They suggest setting your thermostat to 25 degrees during the day and lowering it to 22 during off-peak hours. That can save about $20 per month.

They say closing your blinds can help keep the inside of your house from heating up.
