Large shipment of opium hidden in coffee packaging seized at Pearson

Officers with Canada Border Services stopped a shipment of suspected opium found hidden within coffee packaging at Pearson airport.

The agency says the shipment from Germany seemed heavier than the 500g stated on the packaging.

When they opened it up, they found 25 brick-shaped objects.

The substance tested positive for opium.

The CBSA says they seized 235 kilograms of opium in the GTA last year.

The RCMP say that no arrests have been made.
