Oshawa man hit, killed on New Mexico freeway
Authorities in southwestern New Mexico say a Canadian man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on a freeway.
New Mexico State Police say 64-year-old Sandor Tarkanyi of Oshawa, Ontario was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident around 4:30 a.m. Monday.
They say a vehicle driven by Tarkanyi was disabled after striking a concrete barrier at a construction zone on Interstate 10 east of Deming.
Police say Tarkanyi got out of the vehicle and was struck in the roadway by another vehicle, suffering fatal injuries.
The name of the other driver wasn't released and police didn't say if that person would be facing any charges.
A crowd-funding campaign is aiming to raise money to cover the cost of transporting Tarkanyi's body back to Canada.
