UPDATE: Peel Police suspect man killed wife and son before taking his own life in Brampton
Peel Regional Police now say a 53-year-old mother and her 13-year-old son were the victims of a fatal stabbing Friday morning in Brampton, followed by the 51-year-old suspect - the father and husband - taking his own life.
"This is a family, we are dealing with a very tragic incident," Cst. Danny Martini told reporters Friday afternoon. "We have people that have just lost two parents and a young sibling."
The incident happened around 5:45 a.m. at a home on Josephine Court, with Martini saying the call came from inside the home.
Martini said the father left in a car and headed to the area of the Williams Parkway and Highway 410, where he took his own life.
The remaining members of the family of six are two adult children, as well as a younger child.
"We haven't had dealings with this residence previously," Martini said. "This is an isolated incident within this family, it's very unfortunate."
A black Toyota, believed to belong to the father, was wrapped in police tape in a nearby commuter parking lot.
"I'm just trying to process it right now and I just know it's very sad," a neighbour said.
Martini said at the request of the family and the trauma they're dealing with, the names will not be released.
"I can only imagine what it's like to go through something like this," she said. "If neighbours are close, obviously they'll want to show their support and can do so however they see fit according to their relationships with the victims."
"But otherwise remember that the victims are dealing with something very traumatic and are asking for some space."
The Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau continue to investigate the circumstances of what led to the violence.
