Residents upset over demolished BMO building

Some residents in the Yonge and Eglinton area are upset about the demolition of a 110-year-old Bank of Montreal building over the weekend.

The Lytton Park Residents’ Organization (LPRO) says the building at 2444 Yonge Street was, "brazenly demolished on Saturday," three days after a demolition permit was issued by the city.

The group says, in 2014, the developer had proposed a five storey retail complex that would keep part of the existing building but it was later withdrawn.

In a media release, LPRO director Linda McCarthy says, "This is a heritage site that needed to be protected and it’s unacceptable that there was no warning about its destruction."
