Toronto Police deal with 3 separate incidents that sent 7 people to hospital
Busy few hours for Toronto Police overnight with a trio of incidents, two of them in North York involved multiple injuries.
The first was a stabbing in the Finch avenue and Chesswood Drive area.
Const. Dave Hopkinson confirmed to newstalk 1010 Sunday morning they received a call for an incident at around 1:20 a.m. after an altercation near a banquet hall.
"We got reports of a large fight at a private event. We were told that multiple people had been stabbed."
A total of 3 people suffered injuries, non were lifef-threatening. Police were eventually able to make an arrest.
"During the investigation we've taken two people into custody."
Details of the incident or if the victims and suspects were known to one another is not clear.
A couple of hours later at Jane Street and Trethewey Drive, police responded to a call for sounds of gunshots.
According to Hopkinson, that call came in just after 4 a.m.
" What we found is three male victims that had been shot or suffering from gunshot related injuries. It appears they were all in a car when they were fired upon."
The injuries were considered serious, but none were life-threatening.
A stray bullet also struck the side of a residential building nearby. no one was injured there.
Police are looking for suspects and a getaway vehicle.
Meantime, in the downtown core, a car lost control slammed into a post near King St. and Parliament, and then burst into flames.
The driver was trapped inside.
Police responding on scene helped to try and free the driver, who sustained serious injuries including smoke inhalation and was rushed to hospital.
The details surrounding the circumstances of the crash were intially unclear, according to Hopkinson.
"We know that the single motor vehicle into a pole,the pole has been knocked down and the car burst into flames."
Later in the morning reports surfaced that other occupants were also in the vehicle and had fled the scene.
The car remains on scene as the investigation continues.
Hydro crews arrived on scene just after 10:30 a.m. to try and make the repairs to the damaged hydro post.
