UPDATE: Christine Elliott concedes PC leadership to Doug Ford

Christine Elliott has conceded the Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership race and is congratulating Doug Ford on his win.

In a statement issued Sunday night after a meeting with Ford, Elliott says her team took 24 hours to review the results of a rapid race with many unexpected turns.

She is now satisfied with those results.

Elliott initially flagged what she called "serious irregularites" in the allocations of some members' votes.

On Sunday the veteran Progressive Conservative repeated her campaign promise to run as an MPP if her leadership bid was not successful. Elliott was first elected as an MPP in 2007. After two failed runs at party leadership in 2009 and 2015, Elliott resigned her political post in the summer of 2015.

Newly-minted Ontario PC leader Doug Ford will join NEWSTALK 1010's The Rush at 5 p.m. Monday. He'll follow Premier Kathleen Wynne who will talk with Ryan and Jay at 4 p.m.
