UPDATE: Fatal crash involving taxi in North York

A taxi driver has been killed in a two-vehicle crash in North York.

It happened on York Mills Road near Yonge Street around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police say  the driver of a Mercedes lost control, struck a pole and then hit a taxi.

The driver of the cab, who worked for Beck Taxi, was pronounced dead in hospital.

In a statement released Sunday morning, Beck Taxi said employees were “devastated” to learn about the collision.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We will do whatever we can to support Toronto police in their investigation,” the statement read.

York Mills Road, from Old Yonge Street to Upper Highland Crescent, is closed for the investigation.
