UPDATE: Male skateboarder dies after hit and run in North York
A freak skateboarding accident may have cost a man his life.
Toronto Police confirm to NEWSTALK1010 that a 34-year-old male fell off his motorized board as he travelled eastbound on Sheppard Avenue East in North York at around 1:17 a.m. Monday morning.
He was then struck by an eastbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle got out to take a look, then got back in and drove off.
The man was rushed to a trauma centre, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to spokesperson Gary Long, police have a detailed description of the driver and vehicle.
" The driver is described as a female, Asian, in her 40's with black shoulder length hair. The vehicle is described as an older model silver or grey Toyota Yaris. There was a child in the rear of the vehicle."
Traffic Services is asking for anyone who may have information or dash cam video of the area at the time of the incident to contact them.
Long is also hopeful the female driver will cooperate with the investigation and contact police.
"We would urge her to either get in touch with a lawyer and get in touch with our traffic services or come into any Toronto Police station."
The fatality is the 53rd involving a collision in the city this year.
