UPDATE: One person killed after car and bus collide in Hamilton early Sunday
A 19 year old Hamilton man died after the car he was driving collided with a Transit bus late Saturday night.
According to Hamilton police Staff Sgt. Dave Pidgeon, the victim's car crossed over the medium into oncoming traffic near Lawrence Road and Gage Avenue in the Delta West area of the city just before midnight.
"A Nissan Altima was travelling westbound on Lawrence Road and approaching Gage Avenue south. It appears the Nissan crossed over to oncoming lanes striking an HSR bus that was travelling southbound."
Investigators remained on scene through the night and finally reopened the road to traffic at 8:30 Sunday morning. But Pidgeon told Newstalk 1010 Sunday the investigation continues into the cause of the accident.
"Last night the weather conditions, the roads were wet and slippery but it's unknown whether speed or alcohol were a factor at this point."
The driver was pronounced dead in hospital. Pidgeon confirmed three other passengers in the car suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.
No one on the bus was injured.
