UPDATE: Wet and windy weather on the way

Wet and windy weather is set to slam the GTA starting on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada issued the special weather statement in the morning, warning of a storm that was expected to track into southen Ontario.

The rain is expected to start in small doses, during the rush hour home on Tuesday night, then intensify overnight, leaving as much as 15-30 mm of rain.

But be happy you're in the GTA. In parts of cottage country, where it's still colder, this will be a full-on winter snow storm with as much as 30cms of snow falling in parts of Parry Sound and Muskoka.

The second part of the storm system is expected to bring strong winds, according to Environment Canada's Geoff Coulson.

"The other thing to note, with the strong winds expected on Wedneday with gusts up to 80km/h,  we have a wind warning posted for the Niagara Peninsula, where gusts there could hit 100km/h."

When it comes to the rainfall, Coulson doesn't expect there to be enough to cause flooding, but he says you may run into some large puddles on the roads, especially if you leave for work early on Wednesday.
