WATCH: Toronto cop turned PC candidate under investigation

Toronto Police’s professional standards unit is probing the behaviour of an officer turned political candidate.

Ontario’s NDP released an email Monday from Roshan Nallaratnam which the party says amounts to an “ominous threat”.

The NDP says the email purportedly sent by Nallaratnam to 96 people including many members of the Tamil community, was a response to being asked why he sat out a Scarborough-Guildwood candidates’ debate.

“Fucker don't do nasty campaign against me. I will teach the lesson after election,” the email reads.

Toronto Police spokesman Mark Pugash tells NEWSTALK 1010 their professional standards unit will look into the email.

Nallaratnam, who according to his biography, has worked for Toronto Police for nine years, is on a leave of absence from the service while pursuing a position at Queen’s Park.

Asked about the email Monday morning, PC leader Doug Ford said he hadn’t seen it and would need to look into the matter.

But he conceded that sometimes elections get heated.

The NDP has called on Ford to demand that Nallaratnam apologize. The Liberals want him fired as a candidate.

Nallaratnam is trying to unseat against Liberal cabinet minister Mitzie Hunter in Scarborough-Guildwood.
