The province's Special Investigations Unit has been called in, after Toronto Police were allegedly involved in a shooting near Jane and Driftwood last week.

The call for police came just before 9:15 am on Thursday, September 14, for a stabbing that was happening at the intersection of Driftwood and Cobbler. When officers showed up, they allegedly shot a man who is reportedly 29-years-old. He's now fighting for his life in hospital.

The second person involved, another man, had reportedly been stabbed multiple times, and has been taken to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition. It has been reported that the attacker, Ming Tran, 26, randomly stabbed a 57 year-old man who had just dropped his grandchildren off at a nearby school.

Since the SIU have invoked their mandate, by law, police are no longer allowed to speak with the media.

It's unclear what sparked the original altercation, but the area where this happened is a mix of high-rise condos and single family homes.
