Earth Day celebrations tomorrow
Tomorrow is Earth Day and to mark the day, the St. Catharines Clean City Advisory Committee is organizing its annual Pitch-In Day.
From 9 to 11 am tomorrow, local residents will be out helping to beautify the city, picking up trash at a variety of sites.
Some of the clean up sites includes Malcolmson Eco Park on Lakeshore Road, the QEW off ramp at Lake street, Vinage Parkand the Old Welland Canal.
Gloves and garbage bags will be handed out at each of the sites.
The emphasis tomorrow will also be on EarthPLAY, an effort to bring outdoor, unstructured play back into children's lives
Earth Day Canada says around 70 per cent of all Canadian children spend less than an hour a day outside, and their EarthPLAY initiative is both a fundraiser to build more outdoor adventure playgrounds, and an awareness campaign to get more young people outside.
Brock University officials also using the day to promote their Forest School, where children get outside to play but are also taught the importance of preserving nature, as they become one with the forest.
