Essex County Medical Society Introduces New President

The Essex County Medical Society has introduced its new president.

Dr. Padma Naidu was introduced to the public at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts Wednesday night as part of a gala honouring outgoing President Dr. Maher Zayouna.

Naidu says that representing physicians in the region is something she'll embrace whole heartedly.

"It's a matter of honour for me and initially, as I was telling my other colleagues when I first started at the board I wasn't sure, but gradually I found out that to support and represent my colleagues is something I found passion in," she says.

Dr. Naidu specializes in internal medicine and also serves as the adjunct professor at the University of Windsor's Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Naidu says she looks forward to shining a light on the unique role doctors serve in society.

"It's not just about doing our job, we also go above and beyond to make sure the patients are cared for, so that makes us very unique as a community," says Naidu. "I want our community to be very well represented."

With rising issues surround addiction and mental health; she says the medical society needs its voice heard more than ever.

"During these tough times I do want to strongly represent our physician community her in Windsor and I want our voice to be heard," she added.

Naidu is originally from India, she finished her education at Wayne State before settling in Windsor.

She also works at Windsor Regional Hospital.
