Jays and Tigers Both Lose

A Brett Gardner RBI ground rule double was the difference as the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 at Rogers Centre.

Masahiro Tanaka threw eight shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out four for his eighth win.

Aroldis Chapman picked up his 31st save in the win, snapping the Yanks two-game losing streak.

Trent Thornton fell to 4-and-8, despite giving up one run over six.  Bo Bichette had a pair of singles for the Jays, who snap their two-game winning streak.

In other MLB action, over at Comerica Park it was another losing day for the home team.

Tigers pitchers yielded five home runs in a 10-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals as the two teams split the four-game series in Detroit.

Daniel Norris absorbed the loss, yielding four runs, three of them homers, over three innings.

Niko Goodrum homered and drove in both Detroit runs.  The Tigers are 3-and-3 in their last six games, and Matthew Boyd will be on the mound Tuesday night as they open a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners.
