Major Road Project In Amherstburg Comes In Under Budget
A major road re-construction project in Amherstburg has come in under budget.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the $5.7 million work done on Texas Road was roughly $600,000 under budget.
He credits town staff as well as the project's engineer and contractor.
"We had a great working relationship with the engineer we contracted, with the company we contracted, together with our engineering, administration and the work of the town, they came up with some really creative ways to address issues and that translated into a huge savings for the town," says DiCarlo.
DiCarlo says council has yet to decide what to do with the surplus.
He says it could go into reserves or pay down debt.
Work started in August 2015 and was completed last July.
The improvements include a three metre wide multi-use trail, street lights, storm sewers and road re-surfacing.
