Memorial to Historical Figure Vandalized in Windsor
A memorial in Windsor to a historic nurse has been vandalized.
The Jeanne Mance memorial, located outside of Windsor Regional Hospital's Ouellette Campus on Ouellette Ave, included a bust or sculpture of Jeanne Mance.
Last week, staff noticed the bust was missing.
The historic figure was known for being among the founders of Montreal's first hospital, Hotel-Dieu de Montreal in 1645.
The monument was erected in Windsor in 1946.
"Really disappointing," says hospital spokesperson Steve Erwin. "It is a long time memorial that has been there for 70 years, very historic to the Hotel-Dieu property and it is very sad."
Erwin says the hospital has notified police and they are checking surveillance video.
The bust was made of copper and it is believed it was taken because of its value.
