UPDATE: Woman in critical condition following shooting in Etobicoke condo parking lot
A woman is in critical condition in hospital Sunday afternoon after she was shot at while in a Mercedes Benz, reportedly among a group of other women who were dropping her off after a party.
The shooting occurred in the parking area of the condo at 33 Shore Breeze Drive, near Lake Shore Blvd West and Park Lawn Road.
Const. David Hopkinson told NEWSTALK 1010 Sunday morning that Toronto Police received multiple calls for sounds of gunshots at around 6:50 a.m.
"Apparently the shooting had occurred in a parking lot and we had reports of a number of shots fired," he said. "People fleeing the scene, cars fleeing the scene."
The lone female victim - suffering from a gunshot wound - was found inside a vehicle that had earlier been in a collision with another vehicle according to Insp. Darren Alldrit, who spoke to our media partner CP24.
"That female at the time was without vital signs," he said, adding that crews were able to revive her. "She was transported by paramedics to St. Michael's hospital where I understand she's in life-threatening condition, but they are giving her medical treatment for her injuries."
The mother of one of the women in the car told CP24 that her daughter called her in a complete panic.
"My daughter called me screaming 'mommy, mommy, help me!' and I jumped out of my sleep," she said. "She said 'oh my god, there's another girl. I don't know if she's dead. We run away from the scene. We drop her home after a party, and when we got to the building, just gunshots start spraying all over the place' [sic]."
Another woman who lives on the 36th floor of the condo told CP24 she heard five gunshots, then a pause and another three after that.
Insp. Alldrit confirmed police are seeking a lone suspect.
"All the information I have right now is that it was one person that was shooting. They were dressed in dark clothing. Last direction they were seen running was northbound here towards Lakeshore Blvd."
Forensic Identification Services remained at the scene Sunday afternoon along with the K-9 unit. As many as 18 shell casings were spotted.
