Owner of Neguac trucking company fined over $50K for tax evasion

The owner of a Neguac trucking company has been fined more than $50,000 for tax evasion.

Joseph Yvon Arseneau pleaded guilty earlier this month to eight charges under the Income Tax Act.

An investigation by the Canada Revenue Agency determined Arseneau made false or deceptive entries into his company's records for fictitious truck repairs and maintenance expenses totally more than $289,000.

The CRA says Arseneau cashed the cheques, or deposited them into bank accounts under hi control and failed to report the money as personal income.

Arseneau tells the Miramichi Leader the investigation has been ongoing since 2015 and that he's relieved to put it behind him.

The company, 049780 NB Inc., formerly operated as GDM Transport Ltd.
