Sustainable Kingston Challenges Business to Take a Stand Against Plastic
Sustainable Kingston is challenging local businesses to take a stand against plastic.
The goal is to ban single use items, especially plastics, from their workplaces for the entire summer.
Businesses are being encouraged to register their workplace online here and challenge five other local businesses over social media to do the same.
"Single-use-plastics frequently do not make it to a landfill or the recycling depot, a full 32% of the 78 million tons of plastic packaging produced annually is left to flow into our oceans; the equivalent of pouring one garbage truck of plastic into the ocean every minute" says Kristin Mullin, SK Priority Areas Director.
"The best way to curb single-use plastic pollution is to reduce your personal plastic consumption which is why we have put a challenge out to all of the businesses in Kingston to ban single-use items from the workplace."
Local businesses and employees are also being encouraged to choose re-usable containers, bags, mugs, cutlery, straws, and napkins, in an effort to reduce waste.
