Amherst family displaced by fire; family pet saved by firefighter
An Amherst home has been heavily damaged by fire.
According to the Town of Amherst Facebook page, Tuesday's fire on Elmwood Dr. took about an hour to knock down, but firefighters remained on scene for around three hours in total.
The Canadian Red Cross says there were no injuries, but a woman and two young children have been displaced by the fire and are now living with relatives.
Red Cross volunteers have helped the family with emergency purchases, like clothing, while they wait for more help through insurance.
At the height of the blaze, a firefighter exited the two-storey home with a cat he had rescued.
There's no word on the cause of the fire.
